This is my very own images of the Boxing Day tsunami - not very dramatic, but interesting. 26th December 2004, at 11.30 clock. We just came to the island and were disappointed that the nice little restaurant of Bamboo Bungalows was replaced by a larger - and the beach was gone. The waves behave weired and no one knew what was going on. A little later, when we went to our cabin, bigger waves came, but no one was seriously injured in Koh Phayam far as I know. I do not know why KohPhayam was spared by the tsunami, as elsewhere, Ranong province was hit hard. Maybe it was the shape of the seabed. Maybe it was the uninhabited islands of Koh Kam 20 km south, which were also hard hit, and possibly broke the shaft. Maybe it was pure luck.
